Washington, D.C. – Following major gains by Democrats to take leadership of the House and Senate for the incoming 120th Session of Congress, NSBA is urging lawmakers to prioritize the health of America’s small-business community as a way to address voters’ clear displeasure with the economy. Below is a statement from NSBA President and CEO Todd McCracken.
“I want to first applaud every lawmaker and candidate for their hard-fought races. Running for office is a major undertaking and while there were stark differences between the candidates, the desire to serve one’s country is admirable.
“Over the past 90 years, NSBA has become adept at riding all kinds of waves and we look forward to working with the incoming Democratic leadership in the House and Senate. While the priorities may look different, we trust that the commitment to ensure a thriving small-business community is a common thread among all lawmakers.
“NSBA stands ready to work with returning and new Members of Congress and their staff to begin setting the small-business agenda, and NSBA is already hard at work crafting what will be our priorities for the 120th Congress.
“I hear daily from our members who are finding it more and more difficult to get fair and affordable financing; who struggle to provide competitive benefits packages and health insurance to their employees; who are facing major cost increases when it comes to energy; who have been hamstrung by tariffs causing an inability to procure goods; who want a level playing field when it comes to accessing federal contracts.
“There are 70 million people in this country who run or work for a small business. It is critical that lawmakers seek every opportunity to provide small business the tools we need to help grow the U.S. economy. We are here and ready.”
Celebrating nearly 90 years in operation, NSBA is a staunchly nonpartisan organization advocating on behalf of America’s entrepreneurs. NSBA's 65,000 members represent every state and every industry in the U.S. Please visit www.NSBAadvocate.org or follow us at @NSBAAdvocate.
